Working With AV Integrators & Electricians on Motorised Shading

Motorised blinds and curtains sit between three trades: the shading specialist, the electrician and the AV integrator. Most problems on site come from the gaps between them.

KOZA specifies, supplies and installs motorised blinds and curtains across London, and works directly with the project’s AV integrator and electrician so that power, cabling and control are right before walls and ceilings are closed.

Who Does What

KOZA

Specifies the blind or curtain system and its motor, supplies the motor’s technical details, and installs and commissions the shading.

The AV integrator

Decides how the shading is integrated into the control system, and connects it to the client’s interface.

The electrician

Provides power and containment to the positions agreed with KOZA.

We do not specify the control system itself. We specify shading that integrates into the system the client has chosen or proposes.

Systems We Work With

We have integrated motorised blinds and curtains with Control4 and Rako, and coordinate with Lutron and Crestron systems.

Motor systems we specify include Somfy, Silent Gliss, Nice and QMotion.

Why the Product Is Confirmed First

The cable depends on the motor, and the motor depends on the product and the level of control required. Until the product is chosen, the cable cannot be confirmed.

For that reason we do not issue provisional cabling for openings where the product is still undecided. We state the decision that is outstanding, who owns it, and the date it is needed by.

What We Confirm Before First Fix

For each opening on a project we are appointed to, we confirm:

  • The motor and its power requirement
  • Any control cable or interface required
  • The position for power and cable at the opening
  • How each blind can be isolated for maintenance
  • Access for connections and future servicing

This is issued as a schedule with one line per opening, and revised as the project develops.

Positions Are Signed Off on Site

While walls and ceilings are still open, our team visits site to confirm the exact cable positions. We ask that cables are clearly labelled, with a key showing what each label refers to.

Advice given before we have surveyed the space is indicative. A full technical survey and site coordination are provided once KOZA is appointed to the project.

Common Questions

What cable should we run for motorised blinds?

It depends on the motor, which depends on the product and the level of control. We confirm it opening by opening once the product is chosen.

Who decides how the blinds are integrated into the control system?

The AV integrator. KOZA supplies the motor’s technical details and supports the integrator through it.

Can you confirm cable positions from drawings?

We can guide the route from drawings. Exact positions are confirmed on site, before walls and ceilings are closed.

When should we involve you?

Before first fix, and ideally before ceiling and recess details are fixed.
