Retractable awnings

Retractable awnings for London terraces, patios and gardens

A retractable awning extends the useful life of an outdoor space. It provides shade in summer and lets you enjoy the terrace in spring and autumn, with options for built-in heating and lighting for relaxing or entertaining outside.

Luxaflex® outdoor awning systems combine premium materials with sleek, modern design, built to withstand the elements.

What an awning gives you

  1. Shade and a cooler patio in summer
  2. More months of use in spring and autumn
  3. Built-in heating and lighting options
  4. A compact cassette that protects the awning when folded away

Energy efficient awnings

Energy efficient awnings: shade that cools the house

A professionally installed retractable awning offers more than shade. By blocking direct sunlight and reducing heat build-up, it lowers the temperature inside the living space and reduces the need for air conditioning or fans in summer.

In the colder months the awning can be fully closed, so the home benefits from the sun's natural warmth. That year-round behaviour is what makes an awning an energy-conscious addition to a house.

Weather and sun protection

  • Protection from up to 98% of the sun's harmful UV rays, as stated by Luxaflex
  • A cooler patio for dining and entertaining
  • Light rain protection, diverting water away from walls, windows and doors
  • Folds into a compact cassette when not in use, extending its life

External systems

External screens, venetian blinds and roller shutters

Awnings shade a terrace. External systems fall in front of the glass itself, controlling heat and glare before they reach the window. KOZA offers all three.

External screens

The Luxaflex® RS Classic Screen uses a box-frame design that works with side guide rails for stability in demanding weather. The RS Smart Screen closes completely for a compact, seamless appearance and lets in more natural light when open.

External venetian blinds

Controls solar gain while still allowing view-through, privacy and natural light, and can reduce heat gain by up to 93%, as stated by Luxaflex. They suit various shapes and corner solutions, and can be retrofitted or integrated into new builds.

External roller shutters

Protect windows and doors from sun, wind, rain, noise and dust while controlling natural light, with a perforated design that keeps the view.

Operation and care

Effortless operation and minimal maintenance

Luxaflex® awning fabrics are designed to resist fading, rotting and wear, so they hold their colour in varying UK weather. Occasional cleaning and proper storage when the awning is not in use are all that is needed.

Choose simple manual operation, an electric awning with a handy remote control, or have the awning controlled through your home control system. We coordinate power and control with your electrician or AV integrator; see motorised and smart shading.

An honest note

When an awning is not the right choice

An awning needs a sound fixing, the right projection and enough height. Where the wall, the space or the use of the terrace does not allow that, or where heat and glare at the glass is the main problem, an external screen or roof-glazing blind may suit better.

We survey the wall and space before specifying, as part of our Measurement and Consultation visit. For overhead glazing see our skylight blinds page.

Stop the sun at the glass, not in the room.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Are retractable awnings worth it in the UK?

A good awning extends the time you can use a terrace or garden, gives shade and UV protection, and helps keep the room behind the glazing cooler. Luxaflex® awnings retract into a protective cassette when not in use.

Do awnings save energy?

They can. By blocking direct sunlight before it reaches the glass, an awning reduces heat build-up indoors and the need for air conditioning or fans in summer. In winter it can be fully closed so the home benefits from the sun's natural warmth.

Can an awning be motorised?

Yes. You can choose manual operation, an electric awning with a remote control, or control through your home control system. We coordinate power and control with your electrician or AV integrator.

What is the difference between an awning and an external screen?

An awning projects outwards to shade a terrace or patio. An external screen falls vertically in front of the window to control heat and glare before they reach the glass. Many projects use both.

Do you survey the site before supplying an awning?

Yes. An awning needs a sound fixing, the right projection and sufficient height, so we survey the wall and the space before specifying. The survey is part of our Measurement and Consultation visit.

Do you install awnings across London?

Yes. We specify and install Luxaflex® awnings and external systems for homes and terraces across London and the surrounding area.
