Our approach

The same question, answered window by window

In a new-build, clean openings and large panes may suit a quieter, simpler treatment. In an older home, the proportions and period detail of a room may suggest something different.

We look at the window, the light and how the room is used before recommending anything, and we make the curtains and Roman blinds by hand in our own London workroom.

Questions we help answer

  1. Curtain or blind for this window?
  2. Should the room keep its daylight, or be darkened at night?
  3. Does the window recess or the wall suit the fixing?
  4. What fabric holds its shape and looks right in this light?

One of our projects: Highbury House

Sheer wave curtains that keep the light

This new-build house in Islington needed window treatments that give privacy and shading while keeping the rooms full of light. We used wave-heading sheer curtains in linen and linen-blend fabrics for a clean, effective finish.

In the dining room, a Luxaflex sheer roller blind introduces a little movement and character. The curtains hang from a Silent Gliss wave track.

Choosing for an Islington window

Three common starting points

Sheer curtains

Soften daylight and give daytime privacy. Layered with lined curtains or a blind where the room needs darkening. See bespoke curtains.

Roman blinds

A tailored finish for smaller windows, or where a curtain would be in the way. See Roman blinds.

Roller and screen blinds

A clean, simple solution that can be motorised. See roller blinds and motorised shading.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you make curtains and blinds for homes in Islington?

Yes. We work across London and the surrounding area. An Islington project, Highbury House, used handmade wave sheer curtains and a sheer roller blind. Curtains and Roman blinds are made by hand in our London workroom, and everything is fitted by our own team.

Is there a KOZA curtain shop in Islington?

No. Our showroom and design studio is in Shoreditch, East London, by appointment. We visit Islington homes for the Measurement and Consultation visit, and you are welcome to see fabric collections and motorised systems working at the showroom.

What suits tall windows with period proportions?

Often curtains hung high to emphasise the proportions, or Roman blinds where a curtain would be in the way. Window recess depth and any existing shutters affect the choice, so we look at the window before recommending.

Do sheer curtains give enough privacy?

They give good daytime privacy and filter light, but with lights on at night they will not block the view in. For evening privacy, layer sheers with lined curtains or a blind. That layering is common in bedrooms.

What happens at a Measurement and Consultation visit?

A member of our team visits your home or site, looks at each window with you, discusses fabrics, linings, headings and how each treatment will operate, checks fixings and any ceiling or recess details, and takes the measurements we make to. The visit covers London and the surrounding area.
