Our approach

The right treatment depends on the window and how it is used

Each window puts different demands on the treatment: how it is used, how much light it admits and how easy it is to reach.

We recommend bespoke curtains, Roman blinds, Duette blinds and motorised blinds according to the window.

What we consider

  1. How reachable the window is
  2. Whether the room needs blackout or daylight
  3. How the room is used
  4. Fixings, structure and access

One of our projects: Homerton House

A gable window, planned before it was built

We were asked to provide a blackout solution for a gable window. Involved from the early stages, we gave the contractor the direction needed to build the structure for installation and to plan access for installing and maintaining the motorised blinds.

A dedicated access point was designed and built so maintenance can be carried out with minimal effort. The window is fitted with a special-shaped Duette blind and motorised roller blinds.

The project was delivered alongside Brian O’Reilly Architects and Oval Construction.

Why it worked

  • Involved before the structure was built
  • Blackout planned for an unusual window shape
  • Access for maintenance designed in from the start
  • Motorised, so no reaching or cords

Working with your team

How we work with your project team

A renovation brings several trades together. We join the project team so the windows are resolved alongside everything else.

Architects and contractors

We advise early on fixings, structure and access so the building is ready for the blinds. See our page for architects and designers.

Interior designers

We help with fabric choice and suitability, then make and fit to the scheme.

Electricians and AV integrators

Where blinds or tracks are motorised, we coordinate power and control. See our page for AV integrators and electricians.

Private clients

We guide you from showroom samples through the Measurement and Consultation visit to installation.

The best time to plan a difficult window is before it is built.

Visit us

From Hackney to our Shoreditch showroom

Our showroom and design studio is at 83a Geffrye Street, Shoreditch, London E2 8JA. Visits are by appointment so that we can have fabrics, samples and the right person ready for you.

For the Measurement and Consultation visit we come to your home or site. A member of our team visits your home or site, looks at each window with you, discusses fabrics, linings, headings and how each treatment will operate, checks fixings and any ceiling or recess details, and takes the measurements we make to. The visit covers London and the surrounding area.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you make and fit curtains and blinds in Hackney?

Yes. We work across London and the surrounding area, including Hackney. One of our projects, Homerton House, shows the kind of work we do there, and our showroom and design studio is in Shoreditch, East London.

Can blinds be fitted to a gable or hard-to-reach window?

Yes. For Homerton House we provided a blackout solution for a gable window, using a special-shaped Duette blind and motorised roller blinds. Unusual shapes are made to order. Motorising is most worthwhile where a window is out of reach; for a window you can reach easily, a manual blind may be simpler.

How do I choose between curtains and blinds?

It depends on the room. Handmade interlined curtains give softness and a traditional feel, and Roman blinds suit windows where a curtain would be in the way. We look at the window at the Measurement and Consultation visit before recommending either.

Can you work with my architect and builder?

Yes. On Homerton House we were involved from the early stages and gave the contractor direction on the structure and access. The earlier we are involved in a renovation, the more options stay open.

Is there a KOZA curtain shop in Hackney?

No. Our showroom and design studio is in Shoreditch, East London, by appointment. For Hackney homes we visit you for the Measurement and Consultation visit, and you are welcome to see fabric collections and motorised systems working at the showroom.
