Electric Blinds for Bifold Doors in London – KOZA Projects

Electric blinds for bifold, sliding and patio doors · London

Large glass doors need
shading that moves with them.

Bifold, sliding and patio doors bring light, glare and heat across a wide opening. Electric blinds let you shade or clear the whole run at the touch of a button.

KOZA Projects supplies and fits electric blinds and motorised curtains for large glass doors in homes across London. Family-run and established in 2005, we are a Somfy Expert and a Silent Gliss approved installer, and we work with architects and interior designers so that power and fixing are planned before the doors are finished.

For the full range of blinds we can motorise, see our electric blinds in London page.

Blinds and curtains for bifold and sliding doors

There is no single best answer for a wall of glass. The right choice depends on how the doors are used, how much light and privacy you need and the look of the room.

Electric roller blinds

Clean, minimal and well suited to wide openings and patio doors, where a made to measure fit prevents light gaps. Fabrics range from screen to blackout. See made to measure roller blinds.

Panel glide systems

Flat fabric panels that glide along a multi-channel track, in straight or curved tracks and with manual or motorised operation. Silent Gliss panel glide is used as a sliding door solution and as a room divider. See panel glide systems.

Motorised curtains

An electric curtain track carries a long run of curtain across glass doors from a keypad, an app or a remote. See Silent Gliss curtain tracks and our bespoke curtains.

Curtains and blinds together

Layering a discreet blind with curtains gives privacy and solar control without losing softness, and both can be motorised so the whole opening is controlled together.

Power and control

Power and control for glass doors

Mains-powered motors are wired by an electrician and suit new builds and refurbishments where the cable can be hidden. Battery motors need no wiring and are recharged in place, which suits finished rooms.

On a new bifold or sliding door installation, the power position is best decided before walls and ceilings are closed, with your AV integrators and electricians. We advise at the Measurement and Consultation visit.

Control options

  1. Hand-held remote
  2. Wall switch or keypad
  3. App
  4. Timers and schedules
  5. Smart home or AV control system

Plan early

What to settle when the doors are specified

01

Power position near the opening

02

Fixing position, clear of how the doors move

03

Control, from one blind to the whole room

04

Glare and heat, through fabric choice

05

Access to service the blinds

These are easiest to resolve before the doors and surrounding finishes are complete.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Can you fit electric blinds to bifold doors?

Yes. We advise at the Measurement and Consultation visit on the type of blind, its fixing position and power, taking account of how the doors fold and open, so the blind works with the doors rather than against them.

Should I choose blinds or curtains for bifold or sliding doors?

Either can work, and the two are often layered. Blinds give a clean, minimal line and precise light control. Curtains add softness and can be motorised on an electric track. We talk through the options for your doors and room at the consultation.

Are electric blinds worth it for large glass doors?

Often, yes. Wide openings can be heavy to operate by hand and are often a major source of glare and heat in a room. Electric operation moves the blind evenly, protects the fabric from daily handling and can be linked to the same keypads and scenes as the lights. For a single small door that is easy to reach, a manual blind can be the better choice, and we will say so.

Are electric door blinds wired or battery powered?

Both are available. Mains-powered motors are wired by an electrician and suit new builds and refurbishments where the cable can be hidden. Battery motors need no wiring and are recharged in place, which suits finished rooms. We advise which suits each opening.

Will the blinds get in the way of the doors?

A blind is planned around how the doors operate, including the fixing position and clearances, and this is checked at the survey. We would rather resolve it before the doors are finished than adapt afterwards.

Can the blinds be controlled with the lights and the rest of the home?

Yes. We have integrated motorised blinds with Control4 and Rako, and coordinate with Lutron and Crestron systems, working alongside the project's AV integrator and electrician. See our motorised and smart shading page.

Do you work with architects and designers on new bifold doors?

Yes. We work alongside architects and interior designers, and are most useful when involved early, so power and fixing are planned before walls and finishes are closed. See our page for architects and designers.
