Electric Blinds in London
Electric blinds · London
Electric blinds are
made to measure first.
An electric blind raises, lowers or tilts at the touch of a button, from a remote, a wall switch, an app or a timer. The blind itself still has to be right for the window.
KOZA Projects supplies and fits made to measure electric blinds for homes across London: roller, dim-out, Roman, Duette, venetian and skylight blinds, motorised where it helps. Family-run and established in 2005, we are a Somfy Expert and a Silent Gliss approved installer.
For curtains, integrations and how the trades work together, see our motorised and smart shading page. You can see motorised systems working in our Shoreditch showroom.
Motor, track and control brands we work with
What they are
Electric blinds: what they are and when they earn their place
Electric blinds, also called motorised or smart blinds, have a small motor that does the lifting. There are no cords or chains to pull, so a single touch moves one blind, or several together, evenly and quietly.
They suit large, tall or awkward windows and rooms where cords are best avoided. For a single small window within easy reach, a well-made manual blind is often the better choice, and we will say so.
When electric blinds earn their place
- Large, heavy or high-level windows
- Several windows that should move together
- Skylights and windows out of reach
- Child safety and ease of use
- Homes with a smart home or AV control system
Blind types
Which blinds can be electric
Most of the blinds we supply can be motorised. Each has its own character, and the motor is chosen to suit the blind and the window.
Roller blinds
The cleanest and most common electric blind, in blackout, dim-out, sheer and screen fabrics. See made to measure roller blinds.
Dim-out blinds
Fully framed zip-tension systems for the highest level of light control, with motorised options for bedrooms, AV rooms and larger spans. See dim-out blind systems.
Roman blinds
Handmade in our London workroom and lifted evenly on a motorised headrail, for tall windows, hard-to-reach positions and bedrooms. See Roman blinds.
Duette blinds
Honeycomb blinds with electric options and remote control, which suit tall windows and rooms where cords should be avoided. See Duette blinds.
Venetian blinds
Wooden and wood-effect venetians that tilt and lift at the touch of a button, including premium motorised Timberlux systems. See venetian blinds.
Skylight blinds
Tensioned systems for roof lights and glazed roofs, most of which are electric because the window is out of reach. See electric skylight blinds.
Power and control
Wired or battery, and how you control them
Electric blinds run on one of two kinds of power. Mains-powered motors are wired by an electrician and suit new builds and refurbishments where the cable can be hidden. Battery motors need no wiring and are recharged in place, which suits finished rooms.
Which suits a window depends on the room and the project, and we advise at the Measurement and Consultation visit. Where wiring is needed, it is best planned before walls and ceilings are closed, with your AV integrators and electricians.
Control options
- Hand-held remote
- Wall switch or keypad
- App
- Timers and schedules
- Smart home or AV control system
Smart blinds
Smart blinds, Somfy blinds and Lutron blinds
Smart blinds are most useful when they become part of how the home works. What we supply depends on whether your home already has a control system.
Somfy blinds
As a Somfy Expert we supply Somfy motors with Somfy's remotes and app control. In a home without a central control system, Somfy can run the blinds on its own.
Lutron blinds
Where a home has Lutron, we coordinate the blinds with the Lutron dealer, alongside your AV integrator and electrician, so they can be added to the home's keypads and scenes.
Control4, Rako and Crestron
We have integrated motorised blinds with Control4 and Rako, and coordinate with Crestron systems, working alongside the project's AV integrator and electrician.
Choose the blind first.
Then choose how it moves.

Common questions
Frequently asked questions
What are electric blinds?
Electric blinds, also called motorised or smart blinds, have a small motor that raises and lowers the blind. They are operated by a remote, wall switch, app, timer or the home's control system, with no cords or chains to pull.
Are electric blinds worth it?
For large, high or hard-to-reach windows, for several windows that should move together, and for any home with a lighting or AV control system, yes. Electric blinds remove cords and chains, protect the fabric from daily handling and let the shading work from the same keypads and scenes as the lights. For a single small window that is easy to reach, a well-made manual blind is often the better choice, and we will say so.
How much do electric blinds cost?
We begin by understanding what you want the blinds to solve and what you expect from them. We then assess how a system will perform at each window and recommend the most suitable solution for your brief. The cost reflects the outcome that system is specified to achieve, whether that is light control, privacy, comfort or home-automation integration, so we quote on the actual specification, measurements and fabric rather than give a general figure. Where a saving is possible, we will always suggest an alternative way of reaching the result. The Measurement and Consultation fee is credited in full if you go ahead within 90 days.
Are electric blinds wired or battery powered?
Both are available. Mains-powered motors are wired by an electrician and suit new builds and refurbishments where the cable can be hidden. Battery motors need no wiring and are recharged in place, which suits finished rooms. We advise which suits each window at the Measurement and Consultation visit.
Which blinds can be made electric?
Roller blinds, dim-out systems, Roman blinds, Duette blinds, venetian blinds and skylight blinds can all be motorised. Curtains can be motorised too, on electric curtain tracks; see our motorised and smart shading page.
How do you control electric blinds?
From a hand-held remote, a wall switch or keypad, an app, a timer, or the home's control system. Blinds can be grouped so one touch moves a whole room or elevation together.
Can you make my existing blinds electric?
Sometimes. Roller blinds can occasionally be retrofitted with a motor if the blind and fixing suit it, and battery motors avoid the need for new wiring. More often the existing blind was not designed to take a motor, and a new electric blind is the more reliable route. We assess this at a Measurement and Consultation visit.
Can electric blinds work with a smart home system?
Yes. We have integrated motorised blinds with Control4 and Rako, and coordinate with Lutron and Crestron systems, working alongside the project's AV integrator and electrician. Where there is no central system, Somfy motors can be controlled with Somfy's own remotes and app.
